San Antonio Mayor Ron Nirenberg and Bexar County Commissioner Justin Rodriguez updated the community about the local response to COVID-19 in their daily briefing Thursday night.

Nirenberg reported 47,956 total COVID-19 cases and 990 total deaths in Bexar County, as of Thursday, an increase of 69 new cases. The 7-day moving average of cases is 149.

Nine new deaths were reported today. The deaths happened between Sept. 1 and Sept. 9, Nirenberg said.

City officials also reported that 284 patients are hospitalized, 128 are in the intensive care unit and 80 are on ventilators.

There are 13% of staffed beds available and 65% of ventilators available.

Nirenberg said a new state-run free testing site opened Thursday at 515 Castroville Road. He said people do not need to register for a test at this new site.

Rodriguez reminded people that the final day to register to vote in Bexar County is Oct. 5.
