The school announced Friday the Oct. 16 game, originally scheduled for Provo, Utah, will be played in Houston and give the Cougars six home games in the abbreviated 10-game schedule.
UH and BYU will kickoff at 8:30 p.m. and be televised on ESPN2.
In a statement, UH said it approached BYU about moving the game after consulting with local medical professionals and team doctors regarding travel during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We appreciate the cooperation of BYU Athletics Director Tom Holmoe to move this game to Houston for the 2020 season,” UH vice president for athletics Chris Pezman said. “We are excited to add this home game to our schedule this season and look forward to traveling to Provo to continue our series with BYU in the future.”
UH will travel to BYU to complete the two-game seties at a date to be determined. The two teams are scheduled to meet again in 2023.
With the change, the Cougars now have home games against North Texas (Sept. 26), Tulane (Oct. 8), UCF (Oct. 31), USF (Nov. 14) and Tulsa (Nov. 28).
UH officials continue talks with Rice about rescheduling the postponed Sept. 3 game for later in the season.
The season opener is Sept. 18 at Memphis.
