2020 NBA Playoffs: Bucks vs. Heat odds, picks, Game 2 predictions from model on 60-33 roll

The Milwaukee Bucks will aim to even the series against the Miami Heat in Game 2 on Wednesday evening. In the series opener, Jimmy Butler starred for Miami in leading the team to an upset win, leaving the Bucks in a desperate situation, even as the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference. Eric Bledsoe (hamstring) is listed as questionable for Milwaukee after being sidelined in Game 1, while Gabe Vincent (shoulder) is also questionable for Miami.

Tip-off is at 6:30 p.m. ET in Orlando. William Hill lists the Bucks as 5.5-point favorites, while the over-under, or total number of points Vegas thinks will be scored, is 221.5 in the latest Heat vs. Bucks odds. Before you make any Bucks vs. Heat picks, be sure to see the NBA predictions from SportsLine’s advanced computer model.

  • MIA: The Heat are 6-4 against the spread in the last 10 games

Why the Bucks can cover

The Bucks are an elite team on both ends of the floor, with the presence of Giannis Antetokounmpo serving as a large impetus for that success. Antetokounmpo is among the leading candidates for the 2019-20 NBA MVP award after averaging 29.5 points, 13.6 rebounds and 5.6 assists per game, and he was also named as the league’s Defensive Player of the Year. In the first round against Orlando, Antetokounmpo enjoyed further success but, in Game 1 against Miami, he was held to only 18 points in 37 minutes.

Defensively, Milwaukee was the league’s best team in the regular season, sporting No. 1 rankings in defensive rebounding, shooting efficiency allowed and points allowed per possession. The Heat enjoyed success behind Butler’s star-level performance in the opener, but the Bucks have the math of a larger sample size on their side in forcing opponents into difficult shot attempts.

Why the Heat can cover

The Heat put together a highly impressive performance in Game 1, excelling on both ends of the court. While the Bucks have the NBA’s best defense by the numbers, Butler was able to create efficient offense, scoring 40 points on only 26 shooting possessions. Miami entered the playoffs as the league’s third-best team in terms of shooting efficiency, and Butler serves as the engine of the team’s offense. He is surrounded by high-end shooters in Duncan Robinson and Tyler Herro, another creator in Goran Dragic, and a versatile and talented big man in Bam Adebayo.

Defensively, the Heat have their hands full with Antetokounmpo and the Bucks, but Miami did finish the regular season with a top-10 mark in overall defensive efficiency, headlined by the league’s second-best defensive rebound rate.

How to make Bucks vs. Heat picks

SportsLine’s model is leaning over on the total, with Brook Lopez and Dragic projected to exceed their season-long scoring averages. The model also says one side of the spread hits in over 50 percent of simulations. You can only get the pick at SportsLine.
